FERA / well-to-tank

Fuel- and energy-related activities (FERA) are GHG Protocol Scope 3 category 3. Well-to-tank (WTT) is the fuel supply chain before combustion or before the electricity meter.

Companion rows

The engine inserts companion rows at calculate time for eligible Scope 1 and Scope 2 activities. Companions are not stored in the input unless you materialise them later.

The organisation toggle is FERA included or FERA excluded. Included is the default. Excluded skips companion insertion and omits Scope 3.3 from projections.

MAC net abatement includes WTT when companions exist. Do not add the primary emission factor and the WTT factor into one factor. Each row has its own factor.

Primary activity with direct emissions and a nested well-to-tank companion Primary activity (Scope 1 or 2) Direct combustion / use FERA companion Scope 3.3 WTT

Example: include or exclude FERA

Direct emissions stay at 80 tCO₂e. The WTT companion is 15 tCO₂e when FERA is included.
