Our story

We first stumbled on our mission while reviewing corporate transition plans—and noticing a common flaw: most roadmaps simply assumed away the world outside its walls. They’d model electricity decarbonisation, maybe factor in a bit of efficiency, and call it a day—completely ignoring how EV uptake, policy roll-outs, shifting commuter habits or upstream industrial trends would reshape real-world emissions. Without those exogenous trends baked in, every plan felt unrealistically steep or hopelessly optimistic.

That hit home with the more Heads of Sustainability we talked with. They confessed that, despite paying top dollar for bespoke net-zero analyses, they still couldn’t answer simple questions: “How much will our emissions actually fall if half our fleet goes electric?” or “What if our region’s grid barely decarbonises by 2030?” Without ready answers grounded in real-world trend data, they were flying blind—and their sustainability leads were on the hook every board cycle to defend targets that never seemed to add up.

Elliott, drawing on 15 years of sustainability consulting, told stories of frustrated clients who simply couldn’t trust their own transition plans. Ryan, our data-science lead, saw how a richer dataset—combining market projections, policy timelines, and technology learning curves—could turn guesswork into precision. And Mark, our full-stack pragmatist, reminded us that the most elegant models mean nothing if they’re buried in spreadsheets or locked behind rigid interfaces.

That night we sketched out the seeds of Viable Pathway: an intuitive, API-first engine that starts with a company’s base-year inventory, projects BAU growth, layers on exogenous-trend adjustments, and pinpoints exactly which internal actions are needed to hit science-based targets—no more, and no less. We’d blend Elliott’s strategic foresight, Ryan’s statistical rigor, and Mark’s user-centric design to deliver a truly audit-ready, end-to-end transition-planning platform.

What began as a casual brainstorming session has grown into a mission-driven venture. Today, Viable Pathway empowers investors, consultants, and corporate sustainability teams to build net-zero roadmaps that actually reflect the world in motion, not a static fantasy. Together, we’re turning the tide on flawed forecasts and helping chart a more realistic, resilient path to net-zero.
